The Optometrists Board has launched the voluntary CPD Scheme on 1 November 2004. The main purpose of implementing CPD is to encourage optometrists to commit themselves to life-long continuing professional learning through education and training. Through CPD, optometrists will be able to keep pace with rapid advances in optometry in terms of knowledge, skills and practical experience for the provision of quality service. The CPD scheme is first launched through voluntary participation, before it becomes mandatory upon legislative amendment. Registrants who have attained 10 CPD hours in a year would be awarded with a Certificate of Achievement when they renew the practising certificates. For this year's exercise, registrants would be awarded the Certificate if they have acquired 10 CPD hours when they renew their practising certificate ending on 30 June 2008.
