Functions

The Physiotherapists Board was established under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance, Chapter 359, Laws of Hong Kong, in 1981. With the enactment of the Physiotherapist (Registration and Disciplinary Procedure) Regulation, Chapter 359 subsidiary legislation J, Laws of Hong Kong, registration of the profession of physiotherapists commenced on 1 April 1997 while disciplinary control of the profession was effective on 1 July 1999.

The functions of the Physiotherapists Board are:

(i) to maintain a register of physiotherapists;
(ii) to promote adequate standards of professional practice and of professional conduct among registered physiotherapists; and
(iii) to carry out the functions assigned to it by the Ordinance.
