Functions

The Medical Laboratory Technologists Board was established under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance, Chapter 359, Laws of Hong Kong, in 1981. With the enactment of the Medical Laboratory Technologists (Registration and Disciplinary Procedure) Regulations, Chapter 359 subsidiary legislation A, Laws of Hong Kong, registration of medical laboratory technologists commenced on 1 October 1990 while disciplinary control of the profession was effective on 1 August 1991.

The functions of the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board are:

(i)     to maintain a register of medical laboratory technologists;

(ii)    

to promote adequate standards of professional practice and of professional conduct among registered medical laboratory technologists; and

(iii)    

to carry out the functions assigned to it by the Ordinance.
