Functions

The Optometrists Board was established under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance, Chapter 359, Laws of Hong Kong, in 1986. With the enactment of the Optometrists (Registration and Disciplinary Procedure) Regulation, Chapter 359 subsidiary legislation F, Laws of Hong Kong, registration of the profession of optometrists commenced on 1 December 1994 while disciplinary control of the profession was effective on 1 April 1996.

The functions of the Optometrists Board are:

(i) to maintain a register of optometrists;

(ii)

to promote adequate standards of professional practice and of professional conduct among registered optometrists; and

(iii)

to carry out the functions assigned to it by the Ordinance.
